Amazon Web Services Disrupted by Human Error in Storage Sub-Systems: Newsletter March 3, 2017
AWS caused quite a disruption this week to the internet connection of certain sites and apps. How did this happen? Human error – an Amazon engineer incorrectly inputted a command when shutting down storage sub-systems, meaning AWS S3 storage wasn’t able to service any requests. Popular sites like Trello, Medium, Slack and Quora stopped working and people started freaking out.
Amazon Changes Affiliate Commission Structure from Volume to Category Based: Newsletter February 24, 2017
If you’re an Amazon Associate, you’ve probably heard rumors the past few weeks about changes to your commission rates. Amazon has officially updated its Amazon Associates Program Operating Agreement that will become effective on March 1st. The volume-based fee structure that you’re used to will now be converted to category-based, like Amazon Associates in the UK. Your commissions will no longer depend on if you sell 100 vs 10 products. Instead, Amazon cares more about what category your products are representing. Our team has been working hard internally and with industry experts, to clearly identify how affiliate sites will be affected from March 1st. Facebook’s EoY 2016 Earnings Higher Than Predicted: Newsletter February 3, 2017
More quarterly earnings from the big tech players like Facebook and Amazon came out this week. After the bell closed on Thursday, Amazon’s numbers fell short of Wall Street predictions, whereas Facebook earnings exceeded expectations. Even though numbers weren’t as expected for Amazon, there have been reports that it is in talks with PayPal for a potential acquisition. Amazon is estimated to make up 74.1% of all online sales, all good news for PayPal.
